In January 2018, Kirkland had the honor of hosting a series of public meetings in its backyard, where the public could have access to a free and clean, non-polluting water filter.
A spokesperson for the company told MTV News in a statement that the company is not responsible for the opinions expressed in the article.
Kirkland has been offering the free filter for over a year and was not aware of the criticism it received.
In the interview with the New York Times, Kirklanders CEO Brian Sperling also addressed concerns over the product.
He said Kirkland is confident the filter will be a “safe and effective water purifying device.”
The New York City Department of Health has issued a warning for Kirkland, stating that it is possible for chlorine to build up in the water, and should be avoided.
This is due to the use of disinfectant compounds, which can react with chlorine in water.
Sperling said Kirklands water purification filter is designed to work in conjunction with other products in the home.
