The man who lived in an apartment in a high-rise in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood for two years is no longer in the city.
The man, identified only as “John Doe,” shared a photo of his apartment on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption, “I am leaving NYC for New York, and I am going in a car to go home to my family.”
The man said he was leaving the apartment in the early morning hours of March 31 after a dispute with his girlfriend, who he had been dating for two months.
The apartment was in the same block as a nearby bar that has had a reputation for attracting high-profile guests.
The New York Police Department said in a statement that John Doe’s home is being investigated by the agency’s inspector general for alleged violations of the city’s building code.
John Doe, who is white, said in the Instagram post that he was moving out of the building at the request of his ex-girlfriend.
The photo has since gone viral and attracted more than 6,500 retweets.
